The first nine modern FLIRT trains manufactured by Stadler Polska have been officially accepted by Koleje Mazowieckie. This marks the beginning of the implementation of contracts concluded in 2024–2025, covering a total of 75 vehicles. As a result, deliveries of new electric multiple units for the Mazovia region are now underway. In 2026 53 units are scheduled to be delivered to the operator.

After obtaining the required approvals for passenger operation, the nine trains underwent passenger free test runs, known as monitored test operations. Their successful completion enabled the handover of the vehicles to the operator.

The largest investment programme in regional rail transport in Poland

«For more than 20 years, we have been developing Koleje Mazowieckie. During this time, the company has become one of the leading railway operators in Poland. Only this year, 53 FLIRT trains produced at the factory in Siedlce will be delivered to the company. We are now receiving the first nine units. These trains are modern and safe, and they will greatly improve travel comfort for passengers», said Marshal Adam Struzik.

In May, the new vehicles will start running on selected routes, including services from Warsaw to Dęblin and Skierniewice.

«The delivery of the first ER160 FLIRT electric multiple units is an important milestone for Koleje Mazowieckie. We are starting the largest contract in the company’s history, which includes the delivery of 75 modern trains. This purchase would not have been possible without financial support from the European Union», said Robert Stępień, President of the Management Board of Koleje Mazowieckie.

FLIRT trains from Mazovia for Mazovia

The order is being carried out at Stadler Polska’s manufacturing site in Siedlce, which in previous years has already delivered 71 FLIRT trains to Koleje Mazowieckie. The current contracts are record breaking, both in terms of the number of vehicles and the pace of production.

«Delivering the first nine trains within the short timeframe of twenty two months since the contract was signed is a major challenge, but also a source of great pride. We are operating at full capacity, with one vehicle rolling off the production line every week. Our production halls are currently dominated by the white, yellow and green trains for Koleje Mazowieckie, 53 of which we will deliver this year alone. This is also a significant development impulse for the region, creating hundreds of new jobs in Siedlce and generating orders for local suppliers», says Radosław Banach, CEO of Stadler Polska.

Poland’s largest FLIRT fleet continues to grow

Production of the remaining vehicles is ongoing. By the end of the year, Koleje Mazowieckie’s fleet will exceed 120 modern units of Stadler FLIRT trains, significantly improving travel comfort across the region.

The scope of the contract includes not only the delivery of new trains, but also their maintenance, training programmes for technical staff and service.

The five car FLIRT trains for Koleje Mazowieckie feature spacious entrance areas, a high proportion of low floor design and full accessibility for passengers with reduced mobility, prams and bicycles. The trains are equipped with ETCS Level 2, air conditioning, CCTV, a modern passenger information system, wireless internet access and advanced safety systems, including defibrillators and emergency intercoms. Each train can carry 582 passengers, including 261 seated, and operates at speeds of up to 160 km/h.

FLIRT – modern design, cost efficiency and comfort

FLIRT is one of the most popular train models worldwide, with over 3,000 units sold to 24 countries. Passengers value its high level of comfort, while operators appreciate its reliability and cost efficiency.

Thanks to its lightweight aluminium construction, FLIRT trains consume less energy, resulting in lower operating costs and reduced environmental impact compared to heavier steel vehicles. This is particularly important in the context of developing sustainable public transport.
